Safer Gaming

The goal of the Safer Gambling Week 2022 is to kick-start the conversation among employees, customers, and staff members of loved ones around safer gambling, and highlight tools available to help individuals monitor their betting behavior.

Together, our Safer Gambling initiatives are helping ensure UK customers enjoy a safer and fairer betting and gaming experience. Our safe gambling approach ensures we keep best practices standards in place throughout our business, and wherever possible, industry wide. If you are concerned about your betting habits, we have trained staff at Sky Betting & Gaming who can offer support.

That is why operators that are members of the Bingo Association, the BACTA (which represents amusement arcades) and BGC The BGC will communicate with customers about safer gambling and increase awareness of safer gambling tools, while also highlighting sources for more information, advice and support. While the ESGW is focused on one week of events and initiatives, EGBA and its members are committed to promoting a stronger culture of safer gambling on a daily basis, and throughout ESGW, you can expect to see a coordinated effort to increase the visibility of safer gambling and to make safer gambling information more prominently available to customers. BeGambleAware provides information, advice, and guides people to support that helps to ensure that people are protected from harm by playing.

GamCare offers a moderated online forum and a daily online group chatroom for people affected by gambling harms to connect with others in similar situations, share their experiences, and support each other. GamCare operates a national gambling helpline, offering confidential information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling across England, Scotland and Wales. Gamble Therapy is a worldwide online support service offering advice in multiple languages to those affected negatively by gambling.

TalkBanStop is a new collaboration between GamCare, GamBan, and GAMSTOP, offering a mix of free tools to support you to quit gambling online. This week is Safer Gambling Week, where we join forces to foster better education and awareness, to encourage more people to use safer gambling tools such as deposit limits and time-outs, and importantly, where we point to advice, support and assistance that is available for anyone struggling. Fall is thanks to campaigns such as this week, and the work that regulatory operators are doing year-round to identify and support people who are at risk of harm.

Responsible Gambling, also known as safer gambling, is the suite of social responsibility initiatives that are undertaken by the gaming industry — including governments, regulators, operators, and vendors — to promote integrity and fairness in its operations, as well as promote awareness about the harms associated with gaming, like gaming addiction. Commitments to promoting awareness about gaming addiction are included in the responsible gambling framework, and may include limits and customer-imposed self-exclusion schemes. In the interests of tackling addiction, UK-based betting operators are also required to make available specific tools that enable players to restrict their play.

Ensuring that staff are properly trained on responsible gambling is a vital component to holding a gambling licence. Gambling must not be an interference or substitute for friends, family, employment, or other pleasurable activities.

When gambling becomes your sole form of entertainment, you are less likely to continue to play simply for fun, and gambling might also be problematic. Here at Paddy Power, our business is built on making sure that you enjoy yourself, and we want to ensure gambling is never harmful.
If you are not sure if you might be developing a problem with gambling, you can use the following simple checklist for a self-assessment. In an online assessment, you will be asked a number of questions regarding your gambling behavior, ranging from 1-10.

Problem gambling rates are on the decline, but Michael Dugher has always been clear: One problem player is too many. The objective of the Responsible Gambling Foundation is to raise wider awareness about the scale, the potential causes and consequences of problem gambling in Malta, in order to try and prevent it, and provide necessary support and counselling for problem players and their dependents as they try to recover. The current study investigated consumer protection features of 40 commonly visited, UK-based crypto-based online gambling operators.
These included senior MPs and peers from different parties, including Gambling Minister Damian Collins MP, and high-profile sports figures, such as former soccer coach Harry Redknapp. Last years groundbreaking campaign saw a 17% rise in use of safer gambling tools, such as deposit limits, on the previous 4 week average.

Targeting safer gambling messages at those gambling with less serious problems, which is also a larger proportion of the gambling population, means that messaging campaigns can reach more people, potentially increasing message effectiveness. Any safer gambling messaging campaign must remain sensitive to the experiences of those gambling with more serious harms, and strive to avoid content that might prove counterproductive among that group. Those experiencing greater gambling-related harm might appear the logical target of an intervention, but as a large-scale, relatively non-intrusive, and low-impact intervention, safer gambling messaging might be structured to fit a larger, lower-risk subset of gamblers more structurally.

Gamblers experiencing lower-level harms might be more susceptible to a low-intensity intervention designed to impede escalation into gambling-related harmfulness. Operators must abide by relevant regulators codes of practice for advertising, which generally provide assurances that advertisements are factually accurate and not targeted at minors or vulnerable players, such as players who self-exclude from gaming.

You will have to self-exclude with the relevant brand directly in order to be excluded from an account with that brand. Registering for GAMSTOP will prevent you from logging into online gambling accounts with UK-based company licences, if you are a resident of the United Kingdom.
